Deciding what you want to be when you grow up is not as straightforward as it used to be. These days, it's not uncommon for people to switch careers multiple times, work in a field that is completely different from what they studied in college, or create a completely new job or business doing something that started as a hobby. So how do you know whether you're on the right path, and not just jumping from position to position? And how do you plan for and realize your goals when it's likely they will change over time? Here's how to plan for a successful career, even when the future is uncertain.

Utilities, such as electricity, water, and natural gas, allow us to complete the tasks of daily living. Now that working from home has become the norm, it's that much more important that these critical services work reliably, day after day. As the chances of extreme weather and natural disasters continue to increase, here's what you should know about maintaining your home utilities, and what to do if there's a problem.

All renters have rights. Some are guaranteed by law, while others will be outlined in your lease agreement. Here are some things you can do to be a savvy renter and protect yourself if things go wrong:

All business owners in Kentucky need solid, affordable insurance, and many companies require multiple types. But what happens when something goes wrong and your insurance doesn't cover it? If the cost to pay for injury to others exceeds your policy limits, or worse, is excluded by the insurance policies you have, you could be stuck with potentially crippling out-of-pocket costs.

"YES, we do . . . and for a very important reason.  We would rather serve your business forever at a lower compensation . . . than to serve you for a year or two and lose you to someone who points out you've been sold coverage you don't really need."

Our mission isn't just to become your insurance agent, but rather, your "Expert Buyer," and long-term risk advisor. Our clients are shocked when they realize that many agents take their policy and replicate it, quoting it with multiple carriers, attempting to get the cheapest price.  But without a thorough understanding of your business, your operations, and tolerance for risk, we can't determine if what you have currently is appropriate or properly designed. We call these unaddressed loss exposures "Risk Landmines," and just like real landmines, if left in place and tripped, they can cripple or kill your business.

Understanding your true needs and your ability to handle loss utilizing non-insurance techniques often leads to our clients purchasing less.  This is where our dramatically different, three-step process comes in.

It's all about risk discovery and treatment. After discovery and risk analysis, we'll help you determine how best to handle risk through:

This year, many of us got a much more up close and personal relationship with our families, our houses, and our things. And many of us realized: we have way too much of all three. While you can't get rid of your 6-year-old or your spouse, there are plenty of places you can go to unload excess stuff.

Unfortunately, data breaches and other cybercrimes are becoming far too common. In the past couple years, data breaches have resulted in major fines and legal fees - not to mention headaches - for a discount retail chain, one of the nation's largest banks, a well-known health insurer, an entertainment network, and the federal government.  And like me, it's highly possible you have personally been a part of one of these data breaches!  They are infuriating and very unsettling to those compromised.
But it's not just large organizations that are susceptible to being hacked or getting a virus.   We mistakenly assume that because a business is "small" it isn't a target, that cyber criminals only go after big business-fortune 500 companies.  In fact, it's just the opposite!

Worker's Compensation insurance—a subject most contractors hate to talk about and can be a source of complete frustration.  But armed with the RIGHT information, it doesn't have to be that way.  If you know how it works, what is expected and how to handle it, you'll find yourself on the right track and probably save yourself a lot of headaches....as well as some money.

Workers compensation is required by law in Kentucky for any business that has at least 1 employee.  It's also a financial safety net for employers when employees get hurt or sick due to the job. The problem is.... who is an employee? Who is a sub-contractor? Who is paying who? What is the job?  What am I responsible for?

Training employees can be costly and time-consuming. Even if you don't work in an industry with a high turnover rate, we now live in an era where many people switch careers multiple times in their lifetime, making it harder to find employees you can really nurture and invest in the long term. So how do you decide how much time, money, and energy to invest in training new employees? Consider these things to help you decide how to develop your workforce in a way that makes the most sense for your business.

Pre-COVID most of us had never even heard of Zoom. Now many of us spend time on this app every day. And while you may be pretty Zoom-ed out by now, the reality is that even when the pandemic is over, virtual meetings, school sessions, and family gatherings will probably continue to be a bigger part of our lives than they were before. Seeing that it's an inevitable part of our futures, here's how to make the most of virtual communication:
